Custom Wine Cellars Miami has constantly pursued designing and building new and unique wine cellars. We specialize in different wine cellar styles, including futuristic and modern home wine cellars in Miami, which is why we’re always looking for new technologies that would enhance our wine racking, lighting, and climate-control systems. Check out this project we did with our partners at Coastal Custom Wine Cellars. It’s a very innovative modern home wine cellar in Miami, done with a minimalist composition in mind, but built with state-of-the-art racks, lights, and an insulating system that makes this closet distinct from all the rest.
Expertly-Done Modern Home Wine Cellars in Miami Start with a Strong Vapor Barrier
The Coastal Custom Wine Cellars team was contacted to assemble a modern wine room for this West Kendall, Miami home. To kick it off, the team had to demolish the existing wall, including the studs, to make way for a wine cellar–appropriate wall. Once there was space, they ran the electrical lines first, then added closed-cell foam insulation, which already contained a vapor barrier. Wine cellars need a vapor barrier and a high R-value insulation to conceal them from the fluctuating temperatures outside. If a contractor proposes a wine cellar design without the proper insulation, that could give you trouble as you start using the cellar.
Once we’ve set all the insulation, we put in plywood, then a green board which is a more moisture-resistant material than regular drywall, to finish off the entire wall structure.
A Durable, Futuristic Wine Rack Design
If you’re looking for avant-garde wine racking designs, the cable wine rack system they installed in this modern home wine cellar in Miami will surely spark your curiosity. From afar, the bottles look suspended in midair. But once you go nearer, you’ll see the cables holding them up in a very uniform arrangement. These cable modern wine racks were built with a sleek finish, giving the entire set-up a spotless & polished look.
What’s excellent about cable wine racks is that they can support different sizes of bottles. Two (2) stainless-steel cables hold the bottles at the base, while two (2) other lines support the bottles at the neck end. These cables are attached with highly durable metal clamps, which create divisions or compartments on the rack. We keep the cables in each compartment a little loose, so the whole rack can endure vibrations or even mild earthquakes.
Where Do These Cables Anchor On?
Cable wine display racks need specialized soffits where the tension sets are fastened. For this project, the team built soffits made of plywood on the ceiling and another wooden block on the floor. These tension sets are essential in stabilizing the cables, and they also come in different finishes. With Custom Wine Cellar Miami’s cable wine racking, you won’t have to worry about the cables breaking or the bottles sliding off.
You can choose how many sets of cables you need according to your available space, so cable wine racks can actually be applied even in compact wine cellars. The cables you see here can hold about 500 bottles of wine. That doesn’t include the Knotty Alder cabinet at the center, which the owner could use to decant the wines and store other bottles or tools.
Advantages of Going for a Cable Wine Racking System
The premium-steel quality cable set they utilized here had a chrome finish. When put together with other neoteric elements, it instantly transforms the space into a very futuristic wine room even without other embellishments. Apart from the aesthetics, you can arrange the cables in many ways and display the bottles in a cork-forward or label-forward orientation. Talk about versatility!
Wherever you are in West Kendall, Coral Gables, Miami Springs, North Miami, Key Biscane and other neighborhoods in Miami, Custom Wine Cellars Miami is there to deliver these sterling cable wine racks.
Inaudible Wine Cellar Cooling Systems Are the Best
Ideally, modern home wine cellars in Miami and other areas should have a very calm atmosphere. This includes having a wine cellar cooling system that doesn’t give off too much buzzing noise. A quiet cooling unit will not only contribute to a serene environment but also avoid producing vibrations that could affect your wine’s delicate aging process.
For this modern home wine closet in Miami, the Coastal team opted to have an HS46 unit from US Cellar Systems. This ducted cooling system saves space inside a wine cellar since you can run the coil in the attic and hide the air inlet behind a metal grille. Perfect in maintaining the wine cellar’s brushed-up look!
Custom-Made Home Wine Cellar Lights Set the Right Ambiance
Another astonishing installation the team put up in this modern residential Miami wine cellar is our very own Acrylic LED panels. This lighting system instantly transforms a dark wine room into a stunning, ultra-modern wine storage area.
This unique lighting system consists of an LED light panel that’s placed behind a translucent acrylic board. The resulting light is then soft and quite luxurious like those inside hotels and business establishments. When you turn the lights on, you’re immediately greeted with an abundance of light, which creates a perfect contrast from the dark-toned, industrial color palette of the outside room.
Since our LED lights also come in RGB colors, you can adjust the them for different moods! Great for when you have guests over!
Special Glass Panels Encase This Contemporary Wine Cellar
This contemporary glass wine cellar’s home had an industrial cement block architecture. This style is prevalent in both the exterior and interior. We opted for a glass-enclosed wine cellar with a single, frameless glass door to go with this modern theme. The panels they used here are single-paned and tempered with a ½-inch thickness.
The kind of glass is important because you want to ensure that it doesn’t conduct heat as fast (a feature seen in ordinary glass panels). When the glass is thin and not thermally glazed, it can easily facilitate condensation and produce moisture inside the cellar. Remember that a cellar needs to be kept at a specific humidity to prevent mold from growing over the bottles and corks!
Installing Glass Panels in Modern Home Wine Cellars in Miami Should Be Done the Proper Way
Once the glass panels were ready, the team attached the panels to the wall, ceiling, and floor through U- channels. They also used pivot hinges (not the regular shower door clamps) to secure the corners of the glass door. U-channels and pivot hinges ensure no air gaps between the glass, wood, and cement, so the wine cellar remains unaffected by temperature and humidity fluctuations outside.
