A Modern and Practical Design for a Residential Wine Cellar in Miami
Our challenge was to create a contemporary residential wine cellar design on a budget, in Miami. In this project, we went for simplicity by using Vintage View metal wine racking in a brushed nickel finish. By mounting these with floor-to-ceiling attached frames, we achieved a floating bottle display, attractive and perfect for a modern home.
A Simple, Yet Sleek Wine Cellar Design for a Home in Miami
Wine is an important part of the lifestyle in Miami, mainly because it provides them distinct pleasure. You will typically find a few bottles of wine in a homeowner’s kitchen or entertainment area.
The majority of those who have many bottles of wine in their collection invest in a refrigerated wine cellar. In a neighborhood in Miami, a client of ours wanted to convert a tiny space into a functional wine cellar. We added simple features that make the wine room functional and safe despite the limited space.
Key Features of this Miami Wine Storage Display
At Custom Wine Cellars Miami, our goal is to help our clients build a safe and functional home wine room that suits their financial, aesthetic, and space requirements. In this wine cellar construction project, we created 3-dimensional drawings before starting the installation of the electrical wiring, wine cooling system, storage racks, and lighting.
Creating an Airtight Seal by Insulating the Walls, Ceiling, and Door
Stable wine cellar conditions cannot be achieved if air leaks through the walls, ceiling, or door. At Custom Wine Cellars Miami, we install the proper room insulation to ensure that our client can enjoy their collection for many years to come. This process should be completed before the installation of the wine racking system and cooling system. For insulation efficiency, we included closed-cell polyurethane spray foam. This type of insulation is the most effective as it acts as an excellent R-value insulator and as a 100% moisture-resistant vapor barrier. This type of insulation has a compact cell structure, which expands to prevent air from escaping from or entering the wine cellar. Closed-cell foam is water-resistant, so it cannot be easily damaged when exposed to water. Adding proper insulation and sealing components to the door makes this contemporary residential wine cellar in Miami a safe place for our client’s collection. We used a dual-pane thermally insulated door, which was exterior grade, and included good quality weather stripping.
Weatherstripping should be installed by a professional because there are technical requirements that must be met to ensure a proper seal. Adding weatherstripping is crucial for a display of this kind to avoid practical problems such as condensation and excessive running of the cooling system.
Wine Cellar Climate Control System
We installed a rear ducted CellarPro 1800 XT refrigeration system mounted into the ceiling. Designed to be a cooling system of outstanding performance, this compact refrigeration unit has extra-large coils, and adjustable humidity control, and offers quiet operation. Other features that make this product of CellarPro a convenient choice include the auto-defrost cycle, quick-chill mode, and energy-saver mode. We further added a custom-built metal grill cover. This enabled the mechanical equipment to be completely hidden, maintaining the highly contemporary styling, which was critical in this all-glass mini wine cellar display.
This unit was chosen because there was no practical way to run a line set for a split system. Based on the size of the room, the unit needed to blow cold air down so it would not short cycle. In addition, the equipment required a rear duct option for fresh air intake and hot air exhaust to be ducted out of the space. As the unit comes with a thermostat built into the face of the equipment no further modifications were necessary.
As a natural part of the installation, we included an extended warranty on the mechanical refrigeration equipment. To avoid disasters with high-value wine collections, it is vital to make sure that wine cellar refrigeration equipment is regularly maintained and serviced.
Wine Cellar Racks Elegant Simple Design – Miami Project
In this construction project, we opted for metal wine racks because we wanted to create a modern feel in the wine cellar while staying within the budget. In addition to affordability, another advantage of metal racking is its ability to fit nicely into the corners of the room, which maximized the storage capacity of the small wine cellar. The core racking included a custom column for magnum bottles and a high-quality brushed nickel metal rack by VintageView. Floor-to-ceiling mounts were installed. These are great for class showcase displays as they create a seamless look where the wine bottles appear to be suspended in the air. We believe that with clever design, even the smallest spaces in modern Miami homes can be turned into impressive yet practical features that add value and impress.
