Miami Experts Designed a Contemporary Custom Wine Cellar for a Small Residential Home
Mistakes in wine cellar construction are common when you work with a builder who lacks knowledge and expertise in designing a wine cellar. Wine collecting is an expensive hobby and requires proper storage. Thus, it is important to make sure that you hire a professional who understands the correct way to store your prized wines and how to display them impressively.
At Coastal Custom Wine Cellars and Custom Wine Cellars Miami, they always want to exceed our client’s expectations. They have extensive experience in the design and installation of wine storage facilities. Whether you have a small or large space, they can transform it into a sophisticated climate-controlled wine room.
In one of their recent projects in Orange County, California, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars had to convert a small space in a residential home into an elegant wine room. The client wanted his wine cellar to be customized with a contemporary design and racking that could accommodate bottles of various sizes.
Creating a 3-Dimensional Design for a Residential Wine Cellar in Miami
Before starting the installation process, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars always make a careful assessment of the client’s needs. This step helps them determine the specific requirements of the owner.
To provide the client with better visualization of the completed wine room, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars created 3-dimensional drawings. These images included the dimension and different elevations of the room, bottle capacities of each side of the racking, and bottle orientations.
Unique Wine Rack Features to Hold Bottles of Various Sizes for a Home Wine Cellar in Miami
A gorgeous wine display will impress your guests and enhance the value of your home. Coastal Custom Wine Cellars has been creating tastefully designed wine racks for many years.
In this particular project, the client wanted his wine rack design to have sections for different bottle sizes, including his Bourbon collection. The Coastal team used their passion and creativity to come up with a stylish racking system. Space constraints did not hinder them from building a wine room that stands out from the rest.
Right Wall Wine Racks
On the right wall, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars included the single bottle storage racks at the top section. They left two open spaces for the owner’s Bourbon collection. The right wall also consists of a louvered grill cover and box at the top center. It was designed to conceal the wine cooling unit and make it look like it was part of the racking.
A display row lines the middle section. It adds character to the wine room and allows the owner to highlight some of his favorite vintages together with a stellar wine room lighting system. Also, the display row also stores the bottles at an angle, keeping the cork moist.
When the cork dries out, it becomes brittle and loses its elasticity. When the cork shrinks, it will allow an unwanted amount of air to mix with the wine. When this happens, oxidation occurs. An oxidized wine has off-flavors and aromas.
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars added a tabletop to provide a space for decanting and serving wine. Below the tabletop are open bins for storing the client’s liquors in wooden cases. They customized the wooden cases to fit bottles of various sizes.

Back Wall: The Focal Point of Custom Wine Cellar in Residential Miami Home
The back wall is the focal point of this custom wine cellar designed for a residential home by Miami experts. It consists of an arch and a tabletop. In most of their wine room conversion projects, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars incorporated a stemware rack at the top of the sides of the arch.
In this particular project, they created inset spaces on both sides of the arch to hide the wine glasses. Each side was designed to store the four wine glasses upside down.
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars added two drawers below the tabletop to provide a space for the corkscrews, napkins, and other wine cellar accessories. The rest of the wine racks consist of individual bottle storage.
Left Wall
The top section of the left wall consists of individual wine racks. At the middle section, a display row was built to house large format bottles. The openings were designed to fit bottles between 1.5 liters to 12 liters and display them horizontally (showing the wine labels).
Below the label forward display rows are single bottle racks and diamond bins. Diamond bins are ideal for storing wines in bulk and offer better wine management. This racking style allows the owner to place the same type of wine in one opening.
Premium Redwood Wine Racks
The wine racks were constructed from unfinished Premium Redwood. This wood species is naturally beautiful. When left unstained, it exhibits soft Earth tones that become richer over time. However, the owner decided to apply a finish on the wine racks for color enhancement.
Additionally, Premium Redwood has natural preservatives that make it highly resistant to mold and mildew. This is the reason why it is a favorite choice in building refrigerated wine rooms. For your residential home in Miami, premium redwood wine racks may be the perfect wood species to choose for your custom wine cellar.
Elegant Custom Wine Cellar Door for Miami Residential Home
The entryway is another important element in wine cellar construction. It affects both the aesthetic appeal and functionality of your wine room. It is the first thing guests see before entering your custom residential wine cellar in your Miami home.
In this project, Miami Custom Wine Cellars, customized the door to meet the personal preference of the client and the style of the theme of the wine room.
The Coastal team created a door incorporated with wrought iron details, designed with vines and grape clusters. This door style is called “The Huntington,” because this design was originally created for their client in Huntington Beach.
The arched door, which is about 8 inches high, has a wooden frame and glass panel at the center. Coastal Custom Wine Cellars used dual paned and thermally insulated glass to prevent condensation from forming in the wine room. They also equipped the door with sealing components: weather stripping and an automatic door bottom.
Reliable Wine Cellar Refrigeration System
Wine requires a stable environment to preserve its desirable characteristics. Poor conditions will alter the wine’s properties, resulting in off flavors and aromas. Correct wine storage can be achieved only if an efficient cooling system is installed in your wine room.
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars is known, not only for creating visually appealing custom wine cellar designs for residential homes in California, Miami, New Jersey, and Maryland but also for providing innovative wine cooling solutions.
In this particular project, they installed a ductless split refrigeration system from Arctic Metalworks Inc. This was chosen based on the size of the client’s collection and the location and size of the room.
They mounted the unit on the right wall. The fan coil is located in the cellar while the condensing unit is outdoors. Since the condenser is outside the cellar, the cooling unit offers a quiet operation.
